Cost Estimator: Read and understand architectural blueprints, plans and specifications. Complete take-offs of architectural plans and specifications. (take-offs are the process of separating the information needed to develop a competent bid from all the information found in the plans and specifications.) Select, measure, and track important metrics. Obtain quotes from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified vendors and subcontractors, negotiating price. Analyze and evaluate offers. Gather accurate quotes for both materials, equipment, and labor related to the projects being bid. Estimate pre-contract costs. Once the required information is gathered, enter the information into company estimating system to be able to develop pricing for the project. Prepare estimates of probable costs of material, labor and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic and architectural drawings, and specifications. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors. Maintain cost keys and price masters by updating information. Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects. Consult and communicate with architects, contractors, owners, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Work with construction supervisors and managers to ensure accurate and up to date reports. Operate CAD systems. Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field. 24 months construction cost estimation or related jobs exp. FT.
